Oklahoma May Finally Be Done With Extreme Heat
A strong cold front move through Oklahoma before the First Day of Fall on Sunday, Sept. 22. After several days with above average temperatures, Oklahoma is finally seeing temps that resemble fall. And it's looking like extreme heat may officially be done for in Oklahoma. At least until next year.
The cold front brought in much cooler temperatures to all of Oklahoma. Some places saw a 20 degree difference between Saturday and Sunday. For the rest of the week, Oklahoma will see temperatures either right at or just below average temps for this time of year, low 80s to high 70s. And overnight lows will hover around the low 60s and high 50s.
Rain gave some areas of Oklahoma drought relief.
The cold front also brought in much needed precipitation to Oklahoma. On Sunday, several areas of Oklahoma saw rain from over an inch to nearly six inches. And Oklahoma is expected to see more chances for rain all this week.
Is the extreme heat REALLY gone??
Most Oklahomans are rejoicing that cooler fall temperatures are finally here. But in the back of their minds, they know the second summer could blaze right back up. The Oklahoma Mesonet posted on its Facebook page that Oklahoma is probably done with the extreme heat for awhile, that is until next April or May.
Unfortunately, the NOAA's eight to 14 day extended forecast has Oklahoma experiencing above average temperatures for Sept. 30 through Oct. 6. Of course, above average for this time of year in Oklahoma could just mean temperatures will be in the 90s, but Oklahomans are definitely sick of anything above 85 degrees.
