How To Protect Your Pets And Plants In Oklahoma's Freeze

It looks like Oklahoma will get its first freeze of the season this week! A Freeze Watch was recently upgraded to a Freeze Warning, so Oklahoma residents may want to strongly consider make preparations for below freezing temperatures.

Now, it's not going to be freezing for multiple days. Yet. So this week, Oklahomans don't need to worry about days without power and water. But with the first freeze coming up quickly, Oklahoma residents will want to start making basic preparations for freezing weather.

Oklahoma residents should consider plants, pets and pipes with the first freeze.

There are 36 counties in Oklahoma included in the Freeze Warning that's set to go into effect at 1 a.m. Thursday and end at 8 a.m. So before the end of the day Wednesday, residents in these counties will want to make a plan for their plants, pets and pipes.

If you have any fall mums or other vulnerable plants on your porch, you'll want to bring them inside Wednesday evening! And if you have any outside plants, you'll definitely want to get them covered.

As for pets, make sure you have ways to keep them warm if they're outside. And if you're able to bring them inside overnight, you definitely should!

And there's no need to fully prep outside pipes, but you'll want to consider getting started Wednesday evening. And you'll definitely want to put on your spout covers.
