Oklahoma May See a Wet Christmas
Oklahoma could get rain instead of snow for Christmas.
Well, it's not the moisture we were hoping for, but it looks like Oklahoma could see a lot of rain for Christmas. But if you're still hoping for a white Christmas, you better start praying for an arctic blast to come our way.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, rain will start moving into Oklahoma Thursday, Dec. 21. Most of Oklahoma has a 40 to 60 percent chance of rain Thursday.
As we move into Christmas weekend, rain will continue through Friday and Saturday. Again with strong chances of rain ranging from 40 to 60 percent.
Before we even get to Christmas Eve, multiple areas of Oklahoma could have already seen anywhere from 1 inch to 1.5 inches of rain.
Is snow possible with all this rain?
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like temperatures will be low enough for any of the rain to turn into snow. From now through Christmas Eve, Oklahoma is looking like it will average daily temperatures in the low 60s with overnight temps lingering in the upper 40s and low 50s.
Will it still be raining on Christmas Day?
According to the Oklahoma Mesonet, the current forecast stops at Christmas Eve but the rain is expected to continue through Christmas Day. But no cold air is expected to move in to Oklahoma and give us a white Christmas.
Although, there could be some cold air behind this incoming rain, so maybe northern Oklahoma could see snow on Christmas Day?? But it's too far out to give a definite determination. So, of course, we'll just have to wait and see!
