Two Days of Significant Severe Weather Expected for Oklahoma
Two days of significant severe weather is expected for Oklahoma this Memorial Day weekend. Oklahomans will want to prepare for hail, damaging winds and possible tornadoes on Thursday, May 23 and Saturday, May 25.
Severe weather possibilities for Thursday, May 23.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, scattered severe thunderstorms are expected Thursday, May 23 for a majority of Oklahoma. Storms are expected to develop across western Oklahoma and western north Texas during the afternoon and move eastward towards the evening.
Very large hail is expected along with high winds from 60 to 80 miles per hour. The tornado potential is low.
Although the tornado potential is low for Thursday, it's not zero. Tornadoes are expected to develop between 5-10 p.m. Thursday. If supercells do develop, the National Weather Service in Norman expects them to remain isolated as storms move east.
Earliest start for severe weather on Thursday is expected around 3 p.m. but are most likely to start between 5-10 p.m. Storms will begin to tamper off in the early morning of Friday, May 24.
Enhanced severe weather expected for Saturday, May 25.
Saturday, May 25 is a day Oklahomans will want to be weather aware. An enhanced severe weather day is expected for a majority of Oklahoma on Saturday. Main hazards include large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.
Oklahomans will want to make sure they're prepared for all types of severe weather on Saturday!
