I've heard, and I am sure many of us have... "you look like you could afford to miss a meal". And while those generally would be "fightin' words", on Friday the 13th, they are a suggestion to benefit Arvest Bank's 1 Million Meals Campaign to support the fight against hunger.

The campaign is winding down, but Arvest has asked it's employees and the local community to join the fight by skipping lunch this Friday, and in turn donating the money they would have spent to help support the cause. Arvest hopes the "Skip A Meal" challenge will help bolster donations to their 2-month campaign against hunger, which began April 4th and is scheduled to run through May 28th. This time frame coincides with the beginning of most local food banks busiest time of the year. Summers are usually a larger draw on local food banks due to kids being out of school and the inaccessibility of school lunch programs.

Skipping lunch this Friday is just one of the opportunities Arvest has come up with in order to give the community a chance to donate during the 1 Million Meals campaign. The idea is simple; instead of going to lunch Friday, stop by any Arvest location and donate what you would have spent on your lunch (or any other meal) that day. Six food banks in SW Oklahoma will benefit from the equivalent of five meals. If you aren't able to skip lunch on Friday and you still want to donate food or money, go by any Arvest location or visit arvestbank.com.
