Even though summer has just started its 100-degree days in Oklahoma, local stores are already gearing up for the next holiday - Halloween. Fall feels like a long ways away when the weather is sunny and sweaty, but for big box stores, it doesn't matter. One of the biggest Halloween shops is Spirit Halloween, and these stores always post up in an abandoned storefront. This year's location in Lawton will be in the newly closed American Freight on Sheridan Ave.

As I was making one of my usual trips to Hobby Lobby, I noticed that the old American Freight storefront features a new poster. And, of course, it was for Spirit Halloween. Typically, Lawton has two Spirit Halloween locations, but this is the first poster I have personally seen marking where the national chain will haunt this year.

Other retailers are also preparing for fall.

As I walked into Hobby Lobby, I noticed that they already had all their fall items out. Plus some Christmas! Then later in the week, I visited TJ Maxx, and what do I find, a full isle of Halloween decorations.

As much as I love summer and getting to spend days in my pool, I'll admit that I wouldn't mind some crisp autumn air! And seeing all these fall and Halloween decorations around can make you imagine a chill in the air. Or maybe it's the store blasting the AC.

When will Spirit Halloween open?

Spirit Halloween has yet to announce an official opening date for this year. But with the banners going up across the country, people can expect an opening date soon. Spirit Halloween typically opens its stores around the country in mid-August, and it's usually after its flagship store opens. Last year, Spirit Halloween opened its flagship store in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, on August 1.
