Take a Train Ride from OKC to Ft. Worth on the Heartland Flyer
This is going to be the year I finally get to take a ride on the Heartland Flyer. I've never had the opportunity to take a train ride before and this one looks like it'll be perfect. You may or may not know that there's an Amtrak train the Heartland Flyer that runs from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth, Texas. It's about a 4 and a 1/2 hour trip both ways with a 5-hour stay in Fort Worth. Sounds like a great time and a great day-cation ideal.
You can board the Heartland Flyer at the train station located at 100 S E K Gaylord Blvd in OKC. Then take a trip to the Lonestar state with stops in Norman, Purcell, Pauls Valley, Ardmore, Gainsville, and finally Fort Worth. The Heartland Flyer makes this trip daily. It departs OKC around 8:20 am and arrives in Fort Worth around 12:20 pm. Once you're in Fort Worth you can take in the sites, grab a bite and hang out awhile.
The Heartland Flyer will depart Fort Worth that same day around 5:30 pm and return to OKC around 9:30 pm that night. So if you'd like to make a quick day trip you can, or stay a few days in Fort Worth then take the train back later. I know there are a few places along the way I'd like to get off and see like Pauls Valley, home to the world's largest and best Toy and Action Figure Museum. Maybe schedule the trip to hit a show at the Heritage Hall in Ardmore and grab a bite to eat at Two Frogs Grill before heading back home.
On the train, they have food and drink. You can enjoy a meal in the cafe' car and there's even an upper level that you can upgrade to that's first-class featuring reclining chairs, amazing views, and a whole lot more. Talk about riding in style! I think I'll start saving up and do it upright, maybe do a trip this Spring or Summer with the family. If you're interested and want details on tickets you can visit the official Heartland Flyer website or you can go to www.amtrak.com for all the information and ticket pricing. Looking forward to it!
