Wholesome and Hilarious Moments from the Oklahoma City Thunder Championship Parade
All of Oklahoma is beaming with pride now that the Oklahoma City Thunder have won their first NBA Finals championship. When the Thunder beat the Indiana Pacers on Sunday, the team was adorned with shirts that celebrated their championship on the front and read, "Won for the City," on the back. Oklahoma City celebrate the Thunder on Tuesday with a massive parade downtown, and the Thunder players and the fans were able to celebrate together.
Before the parade, the Thunder and fans gathered at the Paycom Center one last time this season to celebrate the win. Several players spoke, but it was the speech from Aaron Wiggins that was shared widely online. He talked about his rookie season and how the Thunder only had 24 wins that season. He said OKC was called "the blackhole of the NBA," to which the fans booed. He continued, "but now when they mention the Thunder organization, they gotta mention you as NBA champs."
@ran_ent24 It was a point where they tried to call us 'the blackhole of the NBA.' Boo! But 4 years later, when they mention the [OKC] Thunder organization... they gotta mention you as NBA champs!" The celebration parade stretched from downtown Oklahoma City to Scissortail Park.
It was a hot and muggy day for a parade on Tuesday, but that didn't stop Thunder fans from showing up to downtown Oklahoma City by the thousands. Some fans were annoyed that the parade was on a Tuesday, rather than a weekend, but some businesses in Oklahoma City actually closed their offices to let employees attend the parade. Other dedicated fans who weren't as fortunate called out "sick."

The celebration parade started in downtown Oklahoma City and ended at Scissortail Park for the closing ceremony. During the parade, the Thunder road on double decker buses and waved at fans from the top. The team would wave, throw up the trophy and sprayed the crowd with champagne. Most of the team got off the bus periodically to celebrate with the fans face-to-face.

One of the more wholesome moments was when Isaiah Hartenstein spotted an enthusiastic, young fan up against the railing and embraced his shoulders, both shaking with excitement and joy.

Fans were consistently cheering on the Thunder and reached out their hands for high fives or to touch the Larry O'Brien Championship trophy. And SGA shared the same reaction as fans getting to graze the golden basketball.
But one of the best shots of the day was when JDub held up the trophy while on top of the bus, and the OKC flag perfectly flew over him and crowds of cheering fans. All season the Thunder talked about the Oklahoma City fans as another member of the team and often being the biggest motivator during the tough moments. There's no doubt that the Thunder truly won the championship for the city.
