Townsquare Pet Patrol
This week, the Pet Patrol welcome three new groups to the fold, adding to the number of animals we have for you to take a look at every week, when making the decision to add a furry, four-legged family member. We would like to welcome about the Wichita Falls Humane Society, and the Animal Shelters in both Geronimo and Altus.
There are many organizations throughout Southwest Oklahoma dedicated to pets and pet adoptions. From shelters to foster and adoption groups, there are many different options when you are looking to add a new four-legged member to your family. Every week Townsquare's Pet Patrol will be highlighting adoptable pets from throughout the Southwest Oklahoma area, hoping to find furr-ever homes for shelter pets from throughout the region.
This week we are highlighting animals from 12 shelters, and hope to add more as momentum builds for this project. We will also be featuring information on upcoming events at our local shelters, as well as bringing you information on upcoming fund raising activities for these organization.
April is Heart Worm Awareness month, and the Pet Patrol would like to remind you to have your pets checked for heart worms this month. The Pet Patrol is brought to you by Midtown Animal Hospital. We would also like to thank Just 4 K9s and Kitties 2, your home for grooming supplies, as well as all of your pets' needs, from food to beds to toys. Please remember to spay and neuter, and of course to adopt, not shop!
On Saturday, April 15th, Friends Fur Change held an adoption event at PetSense in Chickasha. On Saturday 11 furry friends, 9 dogs and 2 cats found their new families and went to their new fur-ever homes. Great job in Chickasha! Remember, they've got a national adoption event coming up May 5th. You can find out more about that event further on in the Pet Patrol.
Tinkerbell, the Chihuahua mix from Carnegie that was surrendered by her owners because she had trouble staying in her back yard has found her new home. She now has a new family and a new back yard, with fences she won't be able to get past. Here's wishing strong fences and a happy life to Tinkerbell and her new family.
Rainbow Bridge Can Wait has recently lost several of their foster families and is currently looking for temporary homes that can take in one or two animals while they search for their fur-ever homes. Rainbow Bridge Can Wait will be having their Earth Day Adoption Fair on Saturday, April 22nd from 11 am to 3 pm at the PetSmart at 1806 NW 82nd Street in Lawton. Come on out to 82nd and Quannah Parker Trailway and celebrate Earth Day by adopting a dog or cat and giving them their furr-ever home.
Southwest Vet Clinic will be hosting low cost rabies and vaccination clinics in several locations on the dates shown below. All clinics will be held at the posted town's fire department, with the exception of Fletcher, which will be held at the Fair Barn. Clinic prices are as follows:

Black Dog CrossFit and Rainbow Bridge Can Wait is looking for sponsors for their upcoming Canine Calisthenics Adoption Event, scheduled for Saturday, April 29th. For more information, please contact Black Dog Cross Fit before April 14th at 304-488-9864. All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Rainbow Bridge Can Wait.
Friends Furr Change Animal Rescue and PetSense will be holding a national adoption event on Saturday May 6th, at PetSense in Chichasha. All 132 PetSense stores will be holding an adoption event on the same day. There will be more than 50 dogs and cats there for you to meet, as well as a reptile group who will have snakes and lizards up for adoption.
There will be a barbeque, supplied by Arvest National Bank, featuring hot dogs, chips, sodas and other assorted goodies furnished by First National Bank.

Lawton Animal Welfare will be at the Senior Health and Wellness Expo, 19 May 17, from 9 am until 4 pm. We will be providing Free Nail Clipping, Health Checks, Micro-Chipping, Vaccinations, and Rabies Shots to the Seniors PETS. KLAW 101 will be hanging out with Lawton Animal Welfare from 11 to 1 at the event.
The Town of Cement will be hosting the Verden Veterinary Clinic on May 20th, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. for anyone who is interested to bring their dogs and cats to receive their rabies shot. The rabies shot is $8.00 and other shots will be available. We will also be registering all dogs at the same time. If you live inside City limits you MUST register all dogs with the Town. The tags are $5.00 per dog and rabies shot documents must be provided to the Town Clerk in order to receive a tag. If you have any questions feel free to contact the Town Clerk at (405) 489-3222. Pope is young, active, eager to learn, affectionate and ready to give some family a lifetime of love and devotion! He is an 11-month old Pit Bull Terrier mix who has so much love to offer and so much life to live. An active family with children and a big back yard would suit Pope just fine!
Pope is good with other dogs and children who can handle his larger frame but does need a cat-free home. Pope loves to lay in his human companion's lap and make a bed out of your legs. - Lawton Animal Welfare would like you to meet Harper, a 1-2 Year Old Male Staff Mix, who is one of the longest staying resident within Lawton Animal Welfare. Angel 1 year old chihuahua. This sweet girl is a huge personality in a little 8 lb body! She wants to be your second shadow. Angel is a bit of a princess who wants nothing more than to be spoiled and loved on. She has recently learned how to play with toys.
She rides wonderfully in the car and would make an excellent traveling buddy. Angel is up for anything! She does well on a leash so walks are very enjoyable! Belly rubs are her favorite pass time. She will gladly sit next to you (or on your lap) and watch t.v with you for as long as you want. Angel loves to sleep in bed with you, but will sleep in a doggy bed if told to
Angel gets along well with other dogs (especially large dogs), cats, and birds. This spunky girl adores children. She is potty trained as well as kennel trained and knows basic commands. This is Sally, a 2-year old girl, who came from a Hoarding situation with her 3 babies. She is kennel trained, loves all animals, people, kids, potty trained but must take outside. Sally loves to cuddle and just wants to be loved because she really never had someone to take the time with her, but will surely be a great family pet or for someone who wants a loving companion.

This sweet girl is Karma, a 4 year old Shepherd blend who absolutely loves people. She is house broken and loves to play with toys. She gets along with dogs as long as they are the same size as her or larger. However, she does not appreciate smaller dogs at all. She would make a great dog for a family or a single person as long as lots of love and toys are involved.
Karma's adoption fee is $140.00. She comes with up to date age appropriate shots, dewormed, treated for fleas and ticks, and heart worm negative. She is on monthly heart worm preventative and is micro chipped. The rescue pays for activation of the chip and up to a year of monitoring. This is Bully, one of the cutest little puppies you will ever meet. He is a bull dog and he wants nothing more than to find his furr-ever home. Bully is between 8 and 12 weeks and is currently in foster care, but want nothing more than to go home with a family of his own.

The Elgin Animal Shelter is currently fostering two young kittens and their mother and are looking for homes for each. The brother and sister are living in a foster home with their mother and are about weeks old, and like a kitten they are both playful and funny.

Hello everyone, The Wichita Falls Humane Society would like you all to meet Gomer, a 1 yr old terrier mix who has been with them since January. He loves to be around people of all ages, and walks well on a leash and loves to lay out in the sunshine. He even likes cats.
Gomer knows he is a lucky boy, as he was rescued from another shelter who had him high on their kill list. With that drama behind him, there is nothing Gomer would like more than find a new family he can love and play with and share his furr-ever home.

The Geronimo Animal Shelter currently is housing a mother and son pittie pair, who were found abandoned on Divine Rd., left for their own recourse.
