Turkey Terrorizes Children of Southwest Oklahoma City
Residents of southwest Oklahoma City are familiar with a local wild turkey. Recently, the neighborhood wild turkey has resorted to chasing kids on their way to school.
It's not often you see wild turkeys enter city limits. Every now and then you'll see armadillo, opossums or even coyotes make their way in to residential neighborhoods. But I don't think I've ever seen a turkey wandering around my street, and I know I'd have some neighbors who are avid hunters that would much rather use their warm home as a blind for turkey hunting.
Honestly, if I saw a flock of turkeys running down my street, I would assume it's something far more sinister. Turkeys are aggressive creatures!
It's best to leave wild turkeys alone.
If you see a wild turkey, your hide will thank you if you just walk the opposite direction. But sometimes, if you just look at a wild turkey wrong, it will spring into fight mode. (That might be the only mode turkeys have since they can't fly long distances.) And man can turkeys fight.
So when I saw the video below on TikTok, I'm not sure what the kid with the backpack running down Western Ave in southwest Oklahoma City did to piss off this gigantic turkey, but that turkey was after them! Poor kid, they were probably on their way to school or the bus stop. Hopefully they made it without getting pecked. That would be one crazy story for them to tell their friends and teachers though!
In the video, the person driving the car is filming a video of this kid sprinting down the sidewalk with a wild turkey chasing them. The driver says that "if you live in the southwest OKC/Moore area, then you know this turkey." I guess the turkey is a local! They continue by saying, "he has now resorted to chasing kids down Western." I don't know who or what this turkey was chasing before but I guess it's just another day in southwest Oklahoma City!
