Snow has been falling across all of Oklahoma Thursday, Jan. 9! Snowfall is expected to las throughout the day and into the evening and travel is expected to become difficult.

Yesterday afternoon, the National Weather Service put a majority of Oklahoma under a Winter Weather Advisory with parts of southeast and eastern Oklahoma under a Winter Storm Warning. Now that the snow has finally arrived, the Winter Storm Warning has been extended into parts of central and western Oklahoma.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the areas under a Winter Storm Warning are expected to receive four to eight inches of snow and possibly a light glaze of ice. Travel is expected to become difficult and residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts for updates.

Roads have already become slick and hazardous across Oklahoma.

Oklahoma has had some very cold days, which has made it easier for snow to accumulate on surfaces. And it looks like roads across southwest and central Oklahoma have already become slick and hazardous. As of 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, there are not any reports of road closures.

News 9 Meteorologist Lacey Swope posted on her official Facebook page that News 9 storm trackers have already come across multiple wrecks while out tracking the storm.

As of 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has not reported any wrecks or casualties caused by the storm. But a van north of Kingfisher was found turned over on the side of the road and the accident is reported to have been caused by slick road conditions due to the storm.
