Today the spotlight focuses on a former promising major league pitching prospect, whose elbow injury while pitching at Fresno State University ended his big league dreams, and headed them towards Nashville.

Growing up in Southern California, baseball was a year round thing for Brett Young. He didn't discover his musical inclinations until he was attending Calvary Chapel High School in Costa Mesa, and while he enjoyed singing and playing guitar, baseball was still his priority. During his senior year, Young had a 15-0 records as a pitcher and helped to lead his team to a regional championship. He turned down a draft selection by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and headed to Central California to take the mound at Fresno State. The same intensity that led to a scholarship to FSU is evident when you listen to his gritty, impassioned vocals.

Young's songs have appeared on MTV's The Real World and Kourtney and Kim Take New York. He appeared at some of the hottest venues in Southern California, opening up for acts like Colbie Caillat, Gavin DeGraw and Katy Perry. Young released his first independent album in 2007, and has released two more in the time since. He has worked with, and opened for, artists of many genre's, taking a little bit from each to help form a unique country sound.

Young is no stranger to hard work, whether he was on a pitcher's mound, taking the stage or in the studio. Lately, he has been hard at work in the studio with Grammy Award winning producer David Hall on his first major label album, Make Believe, and today we feature the lead single from the project. Brett Young and "Sleep Without You" is today's Catch of the Day, new music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
