Today we feature a group from North Carolina that has brought together the very diverse elements of country, folk and rock music while throwing in a little Greek fiction and created a very interesting potion. A group that started as a four piece family ensemble in 2009 and expanded to their current dynamic just a year later.

While the name Delta Rae sounds like just one person, its is actually a very talented sextet that was formed in Durham, North Carolina by brothers Ian and Eric Holljes, their sister Brittany and friend Elizabeth Hopkins in 2009. They took their name from a fiction story written the Holljeses mother about a Southern girl named Delta Rae, who attempted to summon Greek gods to earth. In 2009, the band debuted at Duke University in North Carolina, from where Ian graduated in 2007 and Eric was attending at the time and graduated later in the year. Brittany graduated from the University of California Berkley, also in 2009, making this possibly the smartest family in the history of music.

In 2010, the original quartet added Mike McKee and Grant Emerson and the line-up was complete. They self-released their self-titled debut EP the same year, signing with Sire records in 2012. Their first Sire release, Carry the Fire charted on the US Folk chart, peaking at #11 in 2012, while the album's second single, "If I Loved You", featuring Lindsay Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, peaked at #5 on the Adult Alternative Chart.

Not to be tied to one musical style, the band released an EP entitled Chasing Twisters in November of 2013, and a full-length album, After It All in April of 2015 for Sire. These releases allowed to comfortably flow between country, rock, folk and americana, not being bound to one genre. They have toured to support these releases, as well as appearing at Farm Aid and Lollapalooza, and other festivals.
