Today we take a look and listen to an artist who is new to Nashville, and brings a style that is unique in Music City. Not sleek and polished, his look is dark and bold, his sound raw and his lyrics razor sharp.

Devin Dawson is not your standard, cookie-cutter young country star. An edgy study in contrast, Dawson grew up in Orangevale, CA, just outside the walls of Folsom prison, listening to Johnny Cash (of course!), Marvin Gaye and Creedence Clearwater Revival. After graduating high school in 2007, Dawson traveled the country, playing any and everywhere they would let him. After a couple years of touring, he enrolled at Nashville's Belmont University, studying songwriting and music business. Belmont is often referred to as Country Music U because of alumni Brad Paisley, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line, Tricia Yearwood, Lee Ann Womack and Canaan Smith among others.

While at Belmont, Dawson played local venues and began concentrating on the writing part of his game. After leaving Belmont, Dawson began writing for other artists, and came to the attention of Warner Chappell/Neon Cross Music, signing a publishing deal in 2012. Country music fans were drawn to the singer via YouTube, where he would post his performances of his songs and also cover versions of other artists.

After Dawson's music started appearing on other artists' projects, and with the fast-growing audience he was building via YouTube, he gained the eye of Warner Music, who signed him to a record contact and sent the young singer and songwriter into the studio with producer Jay Joyce. The result was 12 songs, co-written by Devin, a mix of his California roots and high energy country. The album, I Don't Care Who Sees, was released in 2015, contained his debut single "Blind Man" and the follow-up "Secondhand Hurt". But its the third single from the album that looks to be the one to launch Dawson onto the country music scene.
