‘Catch of the Day’ – Dolly Parton – “The Story” [VIDEO]
Today we feature an artist who has charted more #1 hit singles on the country charts than any other female artist in chart history. She has also charted 41 top-10 albums on the Country Albums chart, a record for any recording artist. An artist who has been nominated for 46 Grammy Awards (a record), 42 CMAs, 39 ACMs a Tony and 2 Academy Awards.
A list of Dolly Parton's records and accomplishments in Country music would be its own article. A 9-time Grammy Award winner, including her 2011 Lifetime Achievement award, Parton has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (1986), the Country Music Hall of Fame (1999), the National Academy of Popular Music Songwriters Hall of Fame (2001), has had two of her songs ("Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You") inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Parton herself has been inducted into 15 different Hall of Fames and received honorary doctorate degree from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee. And this is just a partial list of her accomplishments.
Not bad for a little girl from Sevierville, Tennessee, the fourth of 12 children born to a farmer and construction worker and his wife. The family was so poor that when Dolly was born, her father paid the doctor that delivered her with a sack of oatmeal. The stories of her impoverished childhood would later become the basis for some of her greatest songs, including "Coat of Many Colors" which became an award winning television movie. Dolly began performing in church around age six, by seven she was backing her performances on a homemade guitar.
Since 1967, when Parton released her debut album Hi, I'm Dolly, she has produced 44 solo studio, 4 live, 5 Collaborative and over 100 compilation albums. These albums have received 25 gold, platinum or multi-platinum certifications, with 41 of them going to #1 on the album chart. During her 40 year career she has charted 111 singles, with 26 solo #1's (record for a female performer), 4 collaborative #1s, including, along with her trademark song "I Will Always Love You" on the Artists of then Now and Forever's #1 debut hit "Forever Country".
We have the latest from Dolly in our spotlight today, brought to you by All-American Super Car Wash of Lawton. Dolly Parton and "The Story" is today's Catch of the Day, music you haven't heard, but you're going to wanna hear it again.
