Kelsea Ballerini was a bit of a prodigy herself, writing her first song at the age of 12 for her mother, to help her get through the break-up of her marriage. By age 15, Kelsea and her mother made the nearly 200 mile move, from their home in Mascot, TN to Nashville. After high school, Kelsea enrolled at Lipscomb University in Nashville. Kelsea left Lipscomb 2 years later at age 19 to pursue her career.

Right out of college, Ballerini signed with Black River Entertainment in 2012. In December of 2014 she released her debut single "Love Me Like You Mean It", which, among other things, got her named to CMT's Next Women of Country for 2014. The single, which would serve as the lead for both her self-titled debut EP (released 11/24/14) and her debut album The First Time (released 5/19/15). The song would land at #1 for the week of July 4th, starting what has become a historic run.

It would be only the 11th time in chart history, and the first time since Carrie Underwood in 2006 that a female artist would hit #1 on the country charts with her debut single. When the album produced a second number 1 ("Dibs"), Ballerini would narrow the list to her being only the sixth female recording artist, and the first since Jamie O'Neal in 2001, to hit the top of the chart with her first two singles. Kelsea wasn't done yet though, hitting number one once again with her third single ("Peter Pan") she would be only the second female artist in history (Wynonna in 1992) to hit the top of the chart, and the only female artist with no previous chart history, to hit the #1 spot with her first three singles.

Joey Alexander was born in Denpasar, Bali, India, teaching himself to play piano by age six. Alexander released his first album, My Favorite Things, at age 11. Soon after he was invited by Wynton Marsalis to play at the Jazz at Lincoln Center's 2014 gala, which made him an "overnight sensation" according to the New York Times. He won the Grand Prix at the 2013 Monster-Jam Fest, and also performed at the Montreal and Newport Jazz Festivals in 2015.

Two of the best young musicians in music have come together to celebrate the holidays, and we have their effort in our spotlight today. Kelsea Ballerini, featuring Jason Alexander with "My Favorite Things" is today's Catch of the HoliDays, new holiday music you haven't heard, but you'll want to hear it again.
