‘Catch of the Day’ – Levon – “Ms. Marianne” [AUDIO]
Today we feature a young group that individually gravitated to Nashville, came together seamlessly and has reminded many of the seventies country-rock sound that came out of Southern California in the mid and late 70's. A band who's name pays homage to music royalty and whose sound a tribute to a style that's hard to duplicate.
The band Levon consists of Northbrook, IL native Michael David Hall on guitar and lead vocals (Hall is rumored to have a five-octave range); Sumter, SC native Jake Singleton on harmonies, bass and percussion; and Camden, TN native Ryan Holladay on guitar, mandolin, banjo and harmonies. Taking their name to honor The Band's Levon Helm, the group’s members, all in their twenties, share a collective musical passion for the 1970s “Laurel Canyon Sound”, including Jackson Browne, the Eagles and Crosby, Stills Nash and Young.
After meeting in Nashville and coming together as a group, the trip began playing such Music City-area venues as Puckett’s in nearby Leiper’s Fork, TN and playing for tips outside Nashville favorites like the Pancake Pantry, which helped to contribute to the early buzz on Levon. To date, the band has expanded its résumé to include festival dates, as well as opening slots for such artists like Florida Georgia Line, Lady Antebellum, Willie Nelson, Kelsea Ballerini, Alabama and many others.
Recently signed by Sony Music and Epic Records Nashvile, Levon has released their self-titled, debut EP, produced and arranged by Jamie Houston. We have the lead single from the project in our spotlight today.
