A 20-year lease between Comanche County and Family Promise of Lawton, Inc was approved by Comanche County Commissioners Tuesday night, allowing the non-profit organization to move into the former J. Roy Dunning Children's Shelter. The space will be used for offices, storage and daytime space to be used by homeless families in the Lawton area.

This will allow the organization, who will be paying a $1 per year rental fee on the facility to move its operations from a rented location, allowing the group to shift its funds back to the focus of helping families get their lives back on track. The space will allow families to have a place for families to congregate during times during the day such as before or after work or school. Local churches provide space for homeless family accommodations in the evenings and early mornings.

Family Promise's goal is help families move into permanent housing after 60 days, providing help with job searches, budgeting and parenting skills, among other topics.
