The Comanche County Spring Livestock Show is a community event to say the least.  I have been attending the show since I moved to Lawton.  It not only showcases some of the best livestock from  Cache, Chattanooga, Elgin,Fletcher,  Geronimo, Indiahoma, Sterling, and Lawton, but also features some of the most dedicated and hard working young adults from two great clubs; 4H and FFA.

I have enjoyed talking with these young exhibitors and getting to know them and their clubs even better.  4H and FFA are so much more than agricultural education.  These organizations are for those with diverse interests in the food, fiber and natural resource industries, encompassing science, business and technology in addition to production agriculture.

FFA is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States.   If anyone asks me how they can get their children involved in their community I always recommend 4H and FFA.  They are so much more than just "showing animals".  Talk to your local schools or contact the OSU Extension Office in Lawton.  Lexie Hayes is the Comanche County Extension Educator and 4H Youth Development and she can be reached, during normal business hours, at (580)355-1176 or email her lexie.hayes@okstate.edu
