Fire, Wind, Rain, & Hail Make Up The Tuesday Forecast

As Southwest Oklahoma continues into the spring storm season, things are getting ready to metaphorically heat up.

As the days get longer, the temps get hotter. When those incredibly still-strong cold fronts come through, the amount of warm moist air over us is starting to build to that perfect, ideal storm-creating level. Pretty soon, we'll be in the thick of it.

Today is really the first storm day predicted of the 2022 tornado season. That's not to say we're going to have tornadoes tonight... sure, they're in the forecast as a possibility, but anytime you have storms that tornado chance is never zero.

The big worry today is fire danger. Southern winds are going to whip up to the north as a cold front falls down into the plains. As such, conditions are still perfect for widespread wildfires. We're still really dry, there's still plenty of fuel, it might be another long day for fire crews all over the western half of the state.

As the cold front arrives, yes there is a small chance for tornadoes, but the real worry is going to be hail for now. This early in the fifth weather season, golf ball size chunks of frozen rain are predicted, at least for now. That can change as conditions change outside throughout the day.

Given the areas very recent history with huge hail, this is a big worry for a lot of people in the surrounding towns. Nobody is looking to put their fourth roof on their house in just five years...

On the plus side, the storm possibilities will time up early for our area... things should wrap up by midnight, or at least the severe weather threats. Rains could carry on well into tomorrow morning, which would be awesome considering how dry we are these days.

On a positive note, tomorrow should offer most the chance to hop back in their comfy favorite hoodie for a few days. You may not like it, but the hoodie season is short enough, those who enjoy it will celebrate... quietly... to themselves with the practical hug a good fitting hoodie provides the wearer.
