Fort Sill Emergency Services Recovers Car, Searches for Driver
Fort Sill firefighters and the Lawton Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team recovered a vehicle this afternoon that was swept over the post’s Four-Mile Crossing by high water. Emergency responders are still searching for the driver, believed to be Staff Sergeant David Lee Hawkins, 32, who is still missing.
Working off information from friends and family, Fort Sill emergency responders found the vehicle late this morning completely submerged. Emergency personnel called in recovery vehicles and pulled the car to the river bank.
Search efforts will continue on Tuesday morning. No other information was available at this time. Check this story for updates as we receive them.
As a safety reminder, it only takes four inches of moving water to carry a normal civilian vehicle off the road. For questions about low-water crossings or to provide information on the whereabouts of Staff Sergeant David Lee Hawkins, please call the Fort Sill Law Enforcement Desk at 442-2103.
