Explore Oklahoma’s Nocturnal Wildlife Under the Beaver Supermoon
Oklahoma has a lot of diverse wildlife, but not all of it can be seen during the daytime. Some of Oklahoma's most fascinating wildlife are nocturnal, and can only be seen when the sun goes down. Hackberry Flat in Davidson, Oklahoma, is offering a Full Moon Walk for people to experience Oklahoma's nocturnal neighbors.
The Full Moon Walk at Hackberry Flat will take place from 8-11 p.m. Nov. 15. The guided walk will begin at the Hackberry Flat Wildlife Management Area's William H. "Bill" Crawford Building. The evening will start with a short presentation from the wildlife management area's biologists about the wildlife that may be encountered on the walk. After the presentation, the group will walk through Hackberry Flat, lit by the full beaver supermoon.
What is the Full Beaver Moon?
This year's Full Beaver Moon will also the fourth and final supermoon of the year. It will reach its peak illumination on Nov. 15, and because it's a supermoon, it will appear bigger and brighter than normal. According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, the Full Beaver Moon is named such because this is typically the time of year beavers begin to shelter in their lodges. This was usually the best time to trap beavers for their fur.
