Those who were hoping to enjoy the Lawton's new Aquatics Center will now have to wait till August. The water park was previously set to open on July 18, but the opening date has been pushed back for a second time this year.

The City of Lawton issued an update on the construction of the Aquatics Center on June 17 and announced that the opening date has been pushed back to the first week of August. The reason for pushing the opening date is due to the heavy rains which delayed construction.

This is the second time the opening date for the Aquatics Center to be pushed back. It was intended to open Fourth of July weekend but due to the heavy rains in April, the opening was moved to July 18 and now the opening date has moved once again due to more heavy rain delaying construction.

On June 19, the City of Lawton provided the latest construction updates for the Aquatics Center. The parking lot is almost completed and asphalt paving will begin next week. The pool decking has been completed and the bridge has been installed over the Lazy River. The perimeter fence is also expected to be completed by the end of June.

A Family Slide is set to be installed soon, and sidewalks, landscaping and pool plastering are expected to begin soon. And the building construction continues to remain on track.
