Ranking Lawton’s Golf Courses From A Lifelong Player’s View
I grew up on the golf course in Frederick. My dad would strap my car seat into the golf cart on the weekends when he played. As I grew up, I started playing golf myself, and competed in the Girls Golf State Tournament all four years of high school. So I've played just about every golf courses across southwest Oklahoma more than once, and now that I've lived in Lawton for over a decade, I've played all of the three local courses many times, including casually and for tournaments.
Now that I'm an adult, I realize that I took my hometown golf course, the Frederick Golf and Country Club, for granted. I grew up just being able to walk on the course and start playing, partly because my dad had a membership and because I was on the high school golf team.
Gold courses are often ranked by personal preference.
There are several ways people rank golf courses, and it all leans on personal opinion. Some people believe what makes a good course is a well manicured fairway and greens. Others appreciate affordability and accessibility more.
So, today, a highly ranked golf course in my opinion is more based on affordability and accessibility. As a millennial with a mortgage trying to get by in 2026, a golf membership is not in the budget at the moment.
With spring starting to warm up, I'm getting ready to start playing golf more, especially since I've been asked to play in a few tournaments. So whether you're looking to dust off your clubs and start to play more, or you just moved to Lawton and looking for a place to play, below is my personal ranking of Lawton's three golf courses.
3. Lawton Country Club
I've played the Lawton Country Club a handful of times, and it has all been tournaments, whether in high school or in my adulthood. I've actually never thought about calling the Lawton Country Club to schedule a tee time as a non-member; I'm not even sure if you can as there's no information about it on their website.
But based on the few times I've played the Lawton Country Club for local tournaments, I will say it hasn't been my favorite course to play. It's an adequate course, and there are some pretty holes, but depending on costs, it wouldn't be the first place I'd consider playing as a non-member, especially if I can't look up green fees for non-members online.
However, the Lawton Country Club does have a very good restaurant. I would eat there once a month for a monthly board meeting or for luncheon events periodically, and whether it was the salad bar or catering, the food was always good and the staff always gave 10/10 service.

2. Lawton Municipal Golf Course
The course I play the most in Lawton is the Lawton Municipal Golf Course. I actually really like this course because for a public course, the grounds are well kept. The staff is always kind, which is especially important for a female golfer, and the club house has the best fountain drinks.
The Lawton Municipal Golf Course is also extremely accessible. The price to play and the cart rental are also affordable. And if you play a lot, they also have affordable monthly green fees. The course can be busy on fair weather days, but I haven't ever had to wait for a cart, and have rarely got stacked up on tee boxes.
Most of Lawton's local tournaments are hosted at the Lawton Country Club, but I have played a few tournaments at the Lawton Municipal Golf Course, including some night golf tournaments. All the tournaments I've played at the Lawton Municipal Golf Course have been well organized and enjoyable to play.
1. Fort Sill Golf Club
It may not necessarily be in Lawton, but Fort Sill is close enough to be considered Lawton. I have also played the Lawton Fort Sill Golf Club many times casually and for tournaments in high school. Since I first played the Fort Sill Golf Club at 14, it has been one of my all-time favorite courses to play in southwest Oklahoma.
For one, the course is beautiful. I don't know what it is about Fort Sill, but it has some pretty areas, and the golf course is one of them. It's also one of the best well-kept golf courses I've played, and it has an easily accessible driving range and putting green. The Fort Sill Golf Club also has quaint club house with a well-stocked pro shop and a delicious snack bar with hot food.
You also don't have to be a service member or related to one to play the golf course on Fort Sill. Civilians are welcome to play the course, and the green fee prices are affordable with varying costs for military and non-military golfers. However, if you're planning a weekend round, I highly encourage you to get a tee time because it can get busy. You'll also want to make sure you have a Fort Sill pass secured to get on post.
