Lawton Hosts First Oklahoma Honor Flight in Honor of World War II Veterans
For the first time ever, an honor flight will be chartered out of the Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport. This flight will give World War II veterans an opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifice.
The Lawton Fort Sill Chamber will host a send off program on Thursday, May 3rd at the Great Plains Coliseum. "Parade of Patriots" will begin at 6:30pm and veterans will be escorted by local high school ROTC students. Veterans will be honored and introduced individually in a short program. Family members and the general public are invited to attend.
Oklahoma Honor Flight was founded in 2009. It is a non-profit organization and a recognized 'hub' of the National Honor Flight network. Its sole purpose is to take every Oklahoma veteran who is willing and able to visit their memorials in Washington, D.C. at no cost to the veteran.
