Kirkland’s in Lawton, Oklahoma is Closing but a New Store is Rumored to be Opening Soon

If you haven't heard the unfortunate news yet, Kirkland's in Lawton, OK. is going out of business. The store will be closing its doors permanently later this month, possibly to make room for another retail store that's rumored to move into the outlet space. It seems there's been a rash of closing in Lawton, Fort Sill lately.

Kirkland's is located on the west side at 1920 N.W. 82nd Street in the Lawton Marketplace shopping center between Academy and Target. We stopped by today to confirm all the rumors about it closing and to see just how long it will remain open. We spoke to staff and they told us the official closing date will be (01-25-23).

Seems there's been a rash of closings in Lawton lately. Last month we found out that the Bed Bath & Beyond store at 421 N.W. 2nd Street in Lawton is closing. You can click here to read the story. Now we get the sad news that Kirkland's is also closing. The only good news is there are other businesses coming to town.

While it's never good news whenever a store or any business closes in Lawton, Fort Sill at least here recently we've had several new businesses announce they were opening new locations in our happy, humble, medium-sized metropolis. So right now for every closing, there's been a new store or business with plans of opening.

So what new store or business is rumored to be opening up in Kirkland's retail space once it's been vacated and remodeled? It hasn't been 100% confirmed yet but we're hearing from somewhat, fairly reliable sources that The Gap Inc. will be moving in. That's the BIG RUMOR anyway, guess we'll have to wait and see.

THE GAP IS RUMORED TO BE OPENING IN THE KIRKLAND'S SPACE ON 82ND STREET

While we may not know just how true these rumors about The Gap are, we do know that Burlington is coming to Lawton, Fort Sill. Click here to read the article. The new Burlington will be located in the Lawton Marketplace on 82nd Street. They're working on it now, we should be getting an official opening date soon.

So we may be losing Kirkland's but we'll be getting a Burlington and possibly The Gap at the Lawton Marketplace shopping center. We'll keep you posted, as soon as we hear anything official about The Gap we'll be sure to pass it along. I hate to see Kirkland go, but at least there are other stores to replace those leaving.

Another BIG DEVELOPMENT was the announcement of the all-new Scissor Tail Point Shopping Center that's being built on N.W. Cache Road. The new center will feature Mathis Brothers Furniture, the Mathis Sleep Center, and other retail stores. We've also heard that Old Navy is considering moving there once completed.

However, there are a lot of new businesses and retailers that have plans to open in the very near future. We've been fortunate to have an economic stop-gap in Lawton lately.
