Mother Nature sure is being moody! She's decided to drop the temperatures below freezing over the next few days, not only that, there are high winds, ice, sleet, and snow. Needless to say, it's going to be a very interesting couple of days. Due to the extreme cold, the City of Lawton has opened a warming center.

If you're needing to warm up, or if your power goes out and you need a place to go and possibly stay awhile head to First Baptist Church 501 S.W. B Ave. in downtown Lawton on the corner of S.W. B Avenue and 5th Street. The City of Lawton has teamed up with the Comanche County/Lawton Emergency Management, the American Red Cross, and First Baptist Church to provide a FREE community warming center.

Right now the forecast looks pretty bad for the next couple of days. We'll be seeing temperatures well below freezing and in the single digits overnight. It doesn't look like it going to warm up any until sometime Sunday afternoon (12-25-22). Today and tomorrow (12-23-22) will be the worst, weather-wise so be prepared.

Luckily the power has remained on, at least for most of Lawton. Hopefully, we can make it through this without any serious issues. If you know of someone who is battling the cold and needs help please pass this information along to them. Also if you see someone in need of shelter let them know about the warming station, or take them there. There's also the Salvation Army as well. Stay safe and stay warm out there!
