The Morning Crew Interviews Mark Chesnutt Before His Concert at Lawton’s Apache Casino
It’s not often that you get to interview one of your all time favorite artists, but this morning, it actually happened this morning! I was able to interview 90's country artist Mark Chesnutt before his concert at the Apache Casino Hotel in Lawton, Oklahoma.
I admit, I'm a bit of a fan girl when it comes to Chesnutt. I first met Chesnutt in the early 90’s at a radio station in Wichita Falls, Texas, and I have loved his music ever since! My favorite favorite song of Chesnutt's is "Almost Goodbye." It's a staple at my Tuesday night karaoke sessions at VFW Post 5263 where the entire room sings along!
Chesnutt wasn't an overnight country success.
Chesnutt’s career began in the late 1980’s with an album release that didn’t garner much success. But hold on, because he owned the 90’s, starting with his first major hit and first number one "Too Cold at Home."
Chesnutt quickly found his niche with traditional country songs mirroring his idols - George Jones, George Strait and Hank Williams, Jr. In fact, one of his favorite songs was first recorded by Williams, and Chesnutt played it at all of the bars and honkytonks until he finally released his own version which made it to the top of Billboard charts in 1992.
In all Chesnutt, has earned 14 number one hits, and over 23 top ten releases. He still loves the 90’s sound and admitted that if he were to record a new album today, it would still be that 90’s sound.
Chesnutt will perform at the Apache Casino in Lawton.
Chesnutt is in the middle of his Redemption tour, and is focusing on healing from a quadruple bypass that he admits nearly killed him, and sobriety. You can find tour dates on his official website. Tonight he will be at the Apache Casino Hotel in Lawton, and tickets are available online at the Apache Casino website or on etix.com.
