Midwestern Pet Food in Chickasha, OK. Linked to Dog Deaths and Illnesses
Midwestern Pet Food Inc. in Chickasha, OK. could be linked to hundreds of cases of severe illness and even death to pets. The FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) has issued a warning to the pet food company outlining their findings of a recent inspection. You can click here to read the full report. It details high levels of contamination and potentially deadly levels of Aflatoxin. It's basically fungus, mold and other toxins that can grow on grains and other vegetables that are used in some pet foods.
So far there have been over one hundred dogs who have died and hundreds more who became severally ill due to eating the tainted food. A recall was issued late last year after the FDA inspected several Midwestern Pet Food plants. Both dog and cat food from the plants held higher than recommended amounts of various contaminates that could cause Aflatox poisoning and/or Salmonella poisoning.
The FDA was notified by a recent case of a dog becoming sick after eating SPORTMIX dog food that was manufactured at the Chickasha, OK. plant, Midwestern Pet Food Inc. This caused the agency to investigate and issue the warning letter after they discovered dangerous amounts of Aflatoxin. Several lots of the food have been recalled. The recalled pet food has an expiration date on or before 07-09-22 and has the lot or plant code of 5. You can find this on the back of the bag or can. You might want to double check if you're currently feeding your pet any of the following brands: SPORTMIX, Pro Pac, Splash, Nunn Better, Sportstrail and possibly Earthbound. If you suspect your dog or cat has Aflatoxin poisoning or has eaten any of the recalled food brands listed above contact a veterinarian to make sure your pet is healthy and safe.
