Storm season is coming up in Oklahoma, and as the weather warms up, Oklahomans will begin cleaning out their cellars, making room in their basements and reviewing their storm emergency plan. Murray County Emergency Management in Oklahoma is taking it a step further by hosting a Disaster Preparedness Day in Sulphur, Oklahoma.

Last year, Murray County was struck multiple times by severe weather. The worst of it was on April 27 when three tornadoes moved through the county in the middle of the night and impacted the towns of Marietta, Sulphur and Holdenville. The most dangerous tornado that evening was deemed an EF3 and destroyed homes and businesses in Sulphur.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the tornadoes that occurred on April 27 in Murray County resulted in one death, 30 injuries and several lost homes and businesses.

While the National Weather Service has not yet confirmed the number of tornadoes, storm damage has been reported in multiple areas across the state, including Sulphur, Holdenville and Marietta. KFOR-4 reported there were 17 tornadoes Saturday night into early Sunday. Murray County Emergency Management reports significant damage in Sulphur and numerous injuries. Search and rescue is ongoing at this time. OHP reports troopers are responding to apartments on Woodruff where tornado damage occurred. US-177 approximately 2 miles north of Sulphur is closed due to flooding.♬ original sound - The Oklahoman

Murray County Emergency Management will host the 13th annual Severe Weather Awareness Disaster Preparedness Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Murray County Expo Center in Sulphur.
