Oklahoma Has Received The Most Tornado Warnings In the Country This Year

It's not just a cliche that Oklahoma is known for tornadoes. Oklahoma really does see a lot of tornadoes each year, and the data doesn't lie. Oklahoma can receive tornadoes anytime throughout the year, but its biggest season is in the spring. Now that prime tornado season is winding down, new data is becoming available, and so far, Oklahoma has received the most tornado warnings so far this year than any other state.

News 9 Chief Meteorologist David Payne posted to his official Facebook page on August 7 with the latest data on tornado warnings. Out of all the states that have received tornado warnings so far this year, Oklahoma is sitting at number one with the most tornado warnings at 266 and Texas came in at a close second with 256 tornado warnings.

Oklahoma so far has 88 confirmed tornadoes recorded for 2025.

Out of those 266 tornado warnings, Oklahoma has confirmed and recorded 88 tornadoes so far this year. A majority of those tornadoes occurred in June with 26 tornadoes and in April with 25 tornadoes. Below is a monthly breakdown from the National Weather Service in Norman.

Out of the 88 confirmed tornadoes in Oklahoma, a majority were ranked as EF1 tornadoes. Oklahoma has had up to EF3 tornadoes for 2025.

Oklahoma could still see more tornadoes before the end of 2025.

Even though prime tornado season has come and gone in Oklahoma, the state could still see more tornadoes before the end of the year. Last year was a historic year for tornadoes in Oklahoma. Not only was 2024 the year Oklahoma broke records for the most tornadoes in year with 152 confirmed tornadoes, but it also broke a record for the number of tornadoes in a month for November.

In November of 2024, Oklahoma received 36 confirmed tornadoes. The previous record was set in 1958 with 12 tornadoes. By August last year, Oklahoma had already seen 113 tornadoes. Even though Oklahoma is slightly less in numbers of confirmed tornadoes now in comparison to last year, there's still Oklahoma's fall weather season for the state to rack up more tornadoes.
