Summer heat often lingers through August and sometimes September in Oklahoma. But some local meteorologists have been hinting at a dramatic weather change for Oklahoma by mid-August. There's data pointing to a possible shift to fall by the middle of the month, but other data is indicating a longer summer is in store for Oklahoma.

One Monday, August 4, Meteorologist Mike Collier posted on his official Facebook page that a "big pattern change" is coming up in the extended forecast data for Oklahoma. This change is appearing after August 15 and it's predicting high temperatures in the 60s and 70s for parts of Oklahoma.

It has been such a mild year that Oklahomans may start believing that the state could actually experience a real fall.

Rainfall totals are also expected to increase for Oklahoma through the middle of August.

Usually around this time of year, Oklahomans are praying for rain. But along with being mild, Oklahoma has also had a historically wet year. And it looks like more rain may be on the horizon for Oklahoma this month.

Oklahoma started off August with a rare cold front and increased precipitation. Another cold front is expected next week and it is expected to bring more rain with. Collier recently posted the predicted rainfall totals through August 20 and it looks like more rain could definitely end up in the Oklahoma forecast. His expecting central and northeast Oklahoma to see over an inch of rain before August is over.

The NOAA is predicting more heat and less rain for mid-August.

The NOAA's latest outlook for the next eight to 14 days is not looking very fall-like for Oklahoma. The NOAA is expecting Oklahoma temperatures to remain well above average from August 13-19.

And the NOAA is expecting parts of Oklahoma to see below average to normal precipitation chances through August 19.
