Oklahoma To Host The National Weather Festival
As we roll through First Fall, expecting Second Summer to swoop in by the weekend, it's only natural I share the upcoming National Weather Festival with you.
It's a day set aside each year to let people peek inside the world of meteorology. While the professionals on TV present united fronts that vary from cool and calm to outrageously animated like Chicken Little, the actual method of weather detection is somewhere in the comfortable middle... Exciting, interesting, and far cooler than anyone gets credit for.
It's only natural that this national festival takes place in Norman, it's home to our regional National Weather Service office. Anytime you hear those familiar ominous tones on the radio and a new watch or warning goes out, someone at that office issues it.
If you've ever watched Twister, think of this event sort of like getting a tour of the fun stuff. Chase vehicles, the various pieces of equipment used, they'll even be flying weather balloons during the relatively short festival.
If you'd like to get a little more involved, organizers are looking for volunteers to help out. There are bound to be tons of kids at this event, sounds like a lot of fun.
