UPDATE, 3:45 p.m. Monday, March 10: Congressman Tom Cole announced on Friday, March 7, that he received official confirmation from DOGE and the Trump Administration that the leases will not be terminated for the National Weather Center in Norman, the Social Security Administration Office in Lawton and the Indian Health Services Office in Oklahoma City.

In a press release, Cole stated that he has been "working closely" with DOGE and the Trump Administration on the recent lease terminations.

"All three places provide vital and valuable services to Oklahomans and I am so proud to have advocated for them," Cole said in a press release.

More federal offices in Oklahoma are set to be closed in the latest rounds of closures and firings from the Trump Administration at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). One of those closures includes the Social Security Administration Office located in Lawton, Oklahoma.

News 9 reported that the Social Security office in Lawton is among 11 offices that are closing across Oklahoma to save on real estate costs. It is unclear whether the employees at these offices are being laid off or will be relocated elsewhere.

Oklahoma currently has 19 Social Security Administration offices across the state. Out of the recent closures by DOGE, which is led by unelected tech billionaire Elon Musk, the office in Lawton is the only Social Security office affected.

Below is a full list of federal agency offices across Oklahoma that have had their lease contracts canceled by DOGE.

Those in Lawton and surrounding communities will have to travel to Chickasha for a Social Security office.

As of Friday, Feb. 28, the Social Security Administration office in Lawton is still open and listed on the official Social Security Administration website. It's unclear when the Lawton office will no longer offer Social Security services and close for good.

For those in western and southwest Oklahoma, the next closest Social Security Administration office is located in Chickasha. Most business Americans have to do with the Social Security Administration has to be done in person. Some of the business can partially be done online but final authorization has to be completed at a local Social Security Administration office.

Closing Social Security Administration offices can make it difficult for some Americans to conduct their business with the Social Security Administration, especially the elderly, disabled or those who have limited means of transportation.
