Tomorrow is another City Of Lawton Employee Furlough Day, but Trash will Run
The City of Lawton would like to remind you that tomorrow, Friday, June 12, is another City employee furlough day, however, with one difference from earlier in the year.
This time there will be trash collection. The City of Lawton Solid Waste division will be working tomorrow, but they recommend that you make sure your trash has been collected before bringing can back up to the house, as collections may be delayed due to staffing difficulties.
You may recall the staff furloughs were implemented as a measure to say the City money after utility collections fell during the Coronavirus COVID 19 Pandemic. Rather than force layoffs for employees, they chose two days that employees would furlough without pay.
The Solid Waste division will work on Friday, and the dump will be open, but they will take off on Saturday.
Just a week ago it was announced that shutoffs for non payment of water utilities would resume.
In mid-March, the City of Lawton suspended, via emergency proclamation, the disconnection of water services due to non-payment in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the expiration of this local proclamation, the Utility Services Division will resume disconnecting water services for non-payment after letters are mailed. Account holders may call 580.581.3308 and/or visit Lawton City Hall, 212 SW Ninth Street, to make payment arrangements as outlined in the letter.
As always, the City of Lawton has plans for citizens that cannot pay.in full are able to set up payment arrangements, or to apply for assistance. For more information you can visit City Hall in downtown Lawton.
