CashSaver’s Closing In Lawton Sparks Demand For Better Grocery Options
After next week, CashSaver will close its doors for good in Lawton! The location is part of Homeland's closing and consolidations across the state, and the store's last day in Lawton is May 15. Now residents are wondering what new grocery stores could be possible for Lawton.
After CashSaver closes, the downtown area will be without a grocery store in walking distance of Fields and Dunning, Old Town North, and other neighborhoods east of 11th Street. For those who work downtown, like me, there won't be any grocery stores to and from work and home.
With a grocery store closing downtown, and no new information on the one planned for 2nd Street, Lawton residents are once again giving their suggestions for what grocery store chain they would like to see move into town.
Lawton residents do not want another Walmart, Dollar General or Homeland.
Lawton does have its fair share of grocery stores, including multiple locations of some of the bigger chain stores. The town has three Walmart locations, a Target, an Aldi, and two Homeland stores that won't be affected by the company's closures and consolidations.
So when we asked what grocery store our listeners would like to see to go in the CashSaver location, many were happy to tell us what they DO NOT want to see. The top three stores people do not want another location of in Lawton include Walmart, Dollar General and Homeland.
A few people in the comments complained about Walmart, specifically the prices, hours and how the stores can often be crowded. Some commenters said we had enough Dollar General locations, and with 11 locations in Lawton, that's not an exaggeration. And surprisingly, people in the comments also said they don't want another Homeland location, mainly because they believe the store is overpriced.
Lawton residents really want Oklahoma's first H-E-B location.
We had 192 people comment on our post asking what grocery store Lawton residents want to see in the CashSaver location. And people had some great suggestions! It was no surprise though that H-E-B was the most popular suggestion given Lawton's closeness to the Texas border.
H-E-B is strictly a Texas-based grocery store chain. However, H-E-B has started opening locations close to the Red River, and Lawton residents really want the chain's first Oklahoma location to be in Lawton.

The second most grocery store chain suggested was WinCo. A WinCo location opened in Wichita Falls, Texas, late last year, and a lot of Lawton residents have traveled there just to grocery shop. Some commenters even said they travel to the WinCo location in Moore for weekly grocery trips.
Below are the top five most requested grocery store chains for Lawton.
- H-E-B
- WinCo
- Crest
- Kroger
- Trader Joe's
