Your Gas Bill Account Is Changing In November
If you're a consumer of natural gas in Oklahoma and live in the portions of the state that have been provided by Centerpoint Energy, the very lengthy process of selling us off to the highest bidder will finally come to an end starting in November with Summit Utilities.
It all started in mid-2021 when it was announced Summit Utilities would be purchasing many of Centerpoint's consumer bases in our region. In January 2022 that acquisition became official, and they let consumers know a few weeks ago that Summit would take over billing and accounting by the end of the year.
Ever since Summit and Centerpoint started this process of exchanging bases, Centerpoint has handled our billing and pay accounting systems like normal... but as every baby bird must eventually leave the nest, Summit Utilities is finally in a place where they can officially switch all of that customer data over to their own systems.
The changes officially start in November.
According to Summit Utilities:
Because we are separating from CenterPoint Energy's billing and customer service on November 1st, your account number will change, too. Your new account number will appear on your November bill, and we will provide a secure webpage to help you look up your new account number.
So what does that mean? Well, you'll be receiving a new account number and a new website to pay your gas bill on.
While many questions still remain in the air as to how this transition will go, try to have a little faith in our new natural gas provider Summit Utilities... they've spent the last 18+ months working to this point in time. Judging from the customer ratings you'll find online for them, we're likely in good hands.
If you're like me and have been enrolled in paperless billing for the last decade, I'm as clueless as you as to how all of this is going to work, but it'll work itself out. These things always do. Odds are it'll be like signing up for any other new utility account. A fresh start if you will.
If your turn to swap everything over happens early in November, share your experience with others to ease the pain of a very minor convenience.
As always, you'll be able to call and ask your questions to their representatives if and when they arise.
Summit Utility customer assistance is available 7 AM to 7 PM CT.
