Comanche County Now Has A Pet Resource Center
While the big talking point in this current state of economic recession and rampant inflation is geared toward how it affects the family budget, it's sometimes forgotten that pets are part of that family too.
While I've said before that I've never actually had a pet, I grew up in rural Oklahoma where things aren't so different. In times of struggle, the first things to get cut from the family budget are usually recreational activities. In the same way a drought can raise feed prices, this inflation will force people to start selling horses and cattle. The same happens in the home... how many times have you seen a post on social media "Need to find a good home for my (pet)."
It's a sad day when the average family has to cut a member out just to survive, but there is hope these days.
Our area now has the Comanche County Pet Resource Foundation to not only help abate something like this from happening to your own family but to also offer help to those who need it. Offering pet food and supplies, and if that hard decision must be made, they can help re-home your pet or their unexpected litter of furballs through a network of dedicated volunteers.
The whole goal is to keep this communities pets off the street and out of shelters.
How do they do this? Well, simple. They rely on their partners, sponsors, volunteers, and donations to achieve their goals. If you've got a big soft heart for animals and a little free time, you might want to pitch in wherever you can.
They're also offering affordable basic pet care. Spay and neutering, shots and vaccines, really basic care that a struggling family might skip due to the cost. Donations help pay for that stuff too.
While the clinic has yet to be built, the plan is there for what looks like a pretty fantastic facility. It's only going to take money. I reached out to get some additional information about it but only found anonymous voicemails... Being a volunteer thing, I'd imagine most people are busy with work during the day.
More details will emerge as this foundation developed, in the meantime, you can follow updates on their Facebook page linked here.
