Today's KLAW classic could have been a completely different song had the songwriter, Donna Fargo had her first choice of artists to record the song.
Fargo wanted comedian George Lindsey to record it, but he convinced her that it was her song to sing. And sing it she did. All the way to the top of the charts in 1972. Oh, by the way, the song originally had 16 verses...she narrowed tthm down to two.
