Tropical Storm Norma Will Bring Heavy Rain to Oklahoma This Week
It looks like a tropical storm is headed for Oklahoma! Well, just the tail end of the storm, which will bring heavy rain to the Sooner State. Rain is expected to start this evening and carry through Wednesday.
Even though Oklahoma is a landlocked state, every now and then we get a taste of tropical storms. Usually these storms just bring in heavy rain, which is what is on tap for Oklahoma this week with the remnants of Hurricane Norma making landfall in the Sooner State starting this evening (Monday, Oct. 23). Rain is expected to continue throughout Tuesday and Wednesday.
Heavy rain will move into Oklahoma this evening.
North Texas will get the first bout of rain this evening starting at 7 p.m. and will move into Southwest Oklahoma in the early morning hours at 2 a.m. Tuesday and on towards Central Oklahoma at 8 a.m. Tuesday. But as we know with Oklahoma weather, timing is near impossible to predict correctly! So expect things to change.
Tuesday and Wednesday both have flooding potential.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, tonight's rain through Tuesday morning will saturate Oklahoma's dry ground, which will increase the flood risk for the rain expected Wednesday.
More rain chances Thursday, plus cold front moving through Friday.
Oklahoma will have another chance for rain on Thursday but heavy rain will be unlikely. A cold front will move through Friday, which will bring much welcomed cool fall weather. But there is a possibility for severe weather Halloween weekend.
