Summer is heating up! And Lawton has a good chance of hitting 100 degrees this weekend. Luckily, the new Aquatics Center is set to open in a few weeks, and the City of Lawton recently offered a sneak peek of the facility located in Elmer Thomas Park.

Construction on the Aquatics Center began last year and had a tentative opening date set for the weekend of July 4. But due to the heavy rains, the opening date was pushed back twice. But according to the most recent update from the City of Lawton, the Aquatics Center is still on track to open in August!

The latest update issued on July 17 indicated that plastering of the pool was beginning and once complete, the pool will be filled, which will make the Aquatics Center one step closer to completion. The Aquatics Center will also feature a lazy river, cabana area, concessions, two large slides, family slide, plunge pool, recreation pool with basketball and volleyball, splash pad elements, floating features for kids, diving boards and wading area for young children.

Aquatics Center to offer aqua-aerobics classes and swim lessons.

The City of Lawton indicated that in 2026, Parks and Recreation staff are aiming to offer aqua-aerobics classes and swim lessons, including private, group and beginner.

Once the Aquatics Center opens, it will be able to accommodate 906 visitors at once. The City of Lawton will offer day passes and season passes. See cost break down below:

Lake Altus-Lugert and SWOK's Underwater Ghost Town

Like most rare things, conditions have to be just right to see one of Oklahoma's hidden gems.
