KidZone In Lawton’s Greer Park Set To Reopen On October 11
KidZone at Greer Park was one of the best parks in Lawton to take the kids or grandkids to. But over the years, it feel into disrepair and the iconic wooden castle structure had to be replaced. Now the City of Lawton is getting ready to reopen KidZone on Saturday, October 11 with all new playground equipment.
The City of Lawton will mark the grand reopening of KidZone at Greer Park with a ribbon cutting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 11. Greer Park is located on 38th Street and the new KidZone is north of the tennis courts.
KidZone has been under construction since the spring.
According to a press release from the City of Lawton, KidZone at Greer Park has been under construction since March 4. Instead of the old, wooden castle structure, KidZone will now feature ADA-compliant structures for all children of all abilities, plus three swing sets and shade coverings.
The playground will now have a cushioned flooring system instead of wood chips. Greer Park will also have a new splash pad that will be open during the summer months.
Attendees at the ribbon cutting will be the first to experience the new KidZone.
The City of Lawton is encouraging families to attend the ribbon cutting for KidZone at Greer Park as attendees will be the first to play on the new playground. The ribbon cutting will also feature family activities, like music, food trucks and bounce houses.

Will the new KidZone still feature children's handprints?
One of the sentimental things about KidZone were the tiles of handprints featured at the entrance of the playground. Those handprints were from several Lawton children at the time. And those tiles are now over 20 years old!
In a press release from the City of Lawton earlier this year, the city preserved the handprints at the entrance of KidZone during construction and the handprints are expected to remain in the same place when KidZone reopens. The City of Lawton has not confirmed whether or not the handprints will be in their same location when the playground reopens on October 11.
