The Will Rogers Bronze Medallion for Cowboy Poetry was awarded this past weekend, and a Duncan man brought the prize home.

"After The Chisolm", a book written by George Rhoades of Duncan, was the winner of the grand prize in the Cowboy Poetry division. The award was presented Saturday during an awards ceremony in Fort Worth, Texas. Past winners of the award include L. Ron Hubbard, Louis L'Amore and John D. Nesbitt.

This is not the first trip into the 'winner's circle' for Rhoades and "After The Chisolm". Earlier this year, Rhoades took home the first place award from the Reader Views Literary Award and also winner of the Inside Scoop Award for Most Innovative Poetry Book of 2016. The book focuses on farm and cattle country after the Chisholm Trail closed; cowboys and cowgirls; and memories of rural life.

The Will Rogers Medallion Award recognizes excellence in Western literature and media. The quality of each entry is judged based on content and artistic presentation. All works must represent an accurate reflection of Western Americana, or cowboy and ranch life, historical or contemporary. Historical accuracy is crucial where applicable. Books are judged on their literary quality as well as cover art.

The book, as well as "Along the Chisholm Trail and Other Poems" by Rhoades, is available at amazon.com.
