Its been said that the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Much could be said about the plans of the Tecumseh, OK school district.

Leaders of the Tecumseh Public School District are in damage control mode right now, as several trees that were planted in memory of those that perished in 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City were removed to make room for an electronic sign at Tecumseh Middle School. District Superintendent Tom Weise has said that workers cut down the trees because they partially blocked the view of the sign. Wilsie says he was unaware of the trees' significance until after they had been removed.

School Principal Bradley Martin apparently asked the district if there was a significance to the trees, but did not receive a response. Workers were then instructed to cut down the trees to make room for the sign.

Students from Tecumseh Middle School planted the trees following the April 19, 1995 bombing at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building that killed 168 people. School officials are now in discussions with local Civic and Business leaders and the school's student council to come up with a new memorial to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the bombing next year.
