August Might Just Feel Like Fall In Oklahoma This Year
Oklahoma residents are hoping that local meteorologists are right in saying that fall is coming early. There have been many years were hot summer days lingered way too long into September. But the current extended forecast is expecting a dramatic cool down to arrive in Oklahoma by the end of August, and some meteorologists are saying parts of Oklahoma may not see 100 degrees again this year.
Since the beginning of August, some Oklahoma meteorologists began pointing at a pattern shift for Oklahoma in the middle of August, predicting that fall could come early. As we get more into August, that prediction is becoming more of a reality. As Hurricane Erin ramps up in the Atlantic Ocean, it's expected to bring in the pattern shift for Oklahoma bringing in cooler and drier air.
According to Meteorologist Mike Collier, around August 20, Oklahoma could see daytime highs in the 80s and overnight lows in the 50s. These are definitely conditions Oklahoma doesn't see till at least the end of September or the beginning of October.
Are Oklahoma's 100-degree days really over for the year?
KFOR Chief Meteorologist Mike Morgan posted to his official Facebook page on Tuesday, August 12, stating that Oklahoma City won't hit 100 degrees again this year. Since its been a mild year, Oklahoma City has actually only had one 100-degree day this year. In 2024, Oklahoma City saw 14 days that reached a daytime high of 100 degrees. The last day Oklahoma City reached 100 degrees in 2024 was on August 18.
