
Oklahoma Energy Costs Are Less Expensive Than Most States
With summer temperatures over 100 degrees, Oklahomans often have electric bills even higher. But according to recent study released by WalletHub, Oklahoma's energy costs are less expensive than most states.
The study points out that last summer was the hottest on record while this summer is expected to break that record. Some Oklahomans have already seen electric bills this summer well over $200 or more. With the extreme heat and inflation, WalletHub stated that America's electricity costs went up by 6.2 percent in 2023 are not expected to drop much in 2024.
What is Oklahoma's average energy costs?
Based on WalletHub's study, Oklahoma ranks 40th out of America's 50 states when it comes to energy costs. The average energy costs for Oklahomans is $477. Below is how WalletHub broke down the overall cost:
- $173 - Average Oklahoma Monthly Electric Cost
- $98 - Average Oklahoma Monthly Natural Gas Cost
- $181 - Average Oklahoma Motor Fuel Cost
- $25 - Average Oklahoma Monthly Home Heating Oil Cost
Oklahoma energy companies announced rate hikes earlier this year.
Before Oklahoma felt the heat and the woes of summer electric bills, two of Oklahoma's major electric companies, OG&E and Public Service Company of Oklahoma
(PSO), announced rate hikes. For OG&E customers, that hike would be a 13.83 percent increase on their monthly bill. While PSO customers would see an additional $10 added to their monthly bill.
