Where You Can and Can’t Shoot Off Fireworks In Oklahoma
One of the most dazzling holidays is coming up, and Oklahomans are already making preparations to celebrate! Now that fireworks stands are open in Oklahoma, residents will soon be getting stocked up for Fourth of July. But before they make plans for July 4, residents will want to know local regulations for fireworks.
Oklahoma has several state laws when it comes to the selling and distribution of fireworks. However, regulations for shooting off fireworks is left up to cities and counties. Most cities and counties have different ordinances when it comes to fireworks.
In most areas, people can expect the shooting off of fireworks on public property, like city/county-owned parks and lakes, to be strictly prohibited. But what most people don't know is that streets, easements and sidewalks are also considered public property, so you might not want to shoot off fireworks in these areas.
Some Oklahoma cities do not allow fireworks entirely.
You should also check your cities' ordinances on fireworks in Oklahoma because some cities outlaw fireworks entirely. And these bans don't just outlaw some of the bigger fireworks, the bans also include sparklers, smoke bombs and other little fireworks. The following cities in Oklahoma have banned all fireworks:
- Oklahoma City
- Edmond
- Norman
- Moore
- Yukon
- Del City
- Midwest City
- Tulsa
Other cities in Oklahoma may have a ban on fireworks, so it's important to check your city's fireworks ordinances before shooting off fireworks.
Some cities may have other regulations for fireworks, like only allowing them on certain days and times or only on certain types of properties. Again, checking your city's ordinances on fireworks will give you guidance on shooting off fireworks.
