Peak Tornado Season Expected To Kick Off Next Week In Oklahoma
Residents of Oklahoma know all too well that the state sees the most tornadoes in April and May. Those months are also when Oklahoma has historically seen its biggest and strongest tornadoes. Even though Oklahoma has already had quite a few damaging tornadoes this year, peak season is expected to kick off next week.
Extreme Meteorologist Reed Timmer posted to his official Facebook page this past weekend and indicated that the Great Plains region, including Oklahoma, could see three weeks of severe weather. Based on the forecast from the accumulated supercell parameter, Oklahoma has a high chance of producing supercells at the end of April and into early May.
Oklahoma received multiple tornadoes on Saturday, April 19.
The first accumulated supercell parameter is for April 18-25, and Oklahoma saw multiple tornadoes on Saturday, April 19. Including a possible EF1 tornado that struck Ada, Oklahoma, for the second time this year. Oklahoma also has multiple days for severe weather in its weekly forecast leading up to Friday, April 25.
Even though severe weather is anticipated, Oklahoma is expected to receive some much needed rain fall through the week. By the end of the week, various areas of Oklahoma could see up to four inches of rain, which will be on top of the rain Oklahoma already received over the past weekend.
Severe weather could ramp up the last week of April.
Even though we're in the final days of April, the last few days could see severe weather ramp up. The accumulated supercell parameter has a majority of Oklahoma at the highest probability of supercell production from Friday, April 25 through Thursday, May 1.
According to TikTok meteorologist @wxwithpeyton, the accumulated supercell parameter has been consistent, and for a while it has been hinting at severe supercell production in the last week of April and early May. During that time, increased severe weather production is expected to shift from the deep south to the central plains.
