Watch a WWII Airborne Demonstration In Frederick, Oklahoma
One of the coolest things about the WWII Airborne Demonstration Team in Frederick, Oklahoma, is getting to experience history firsthand during an Open Hangar Day! The team has scheduled an Open Hangar Day for Saturday, Oct. 19 that will feature a live airborne demonstration with a WWII aircraft.
According to the WWII Airborne Demonstration Team's website, the mission of the team is to "remember, honor and serve the memory of those men and women who fought and died to preserve America's freedom not only during WWII but during all conflicts."
The team is made up of volunteers that train as WWII airborne soldiers and act as them when preparing and parachuting from WWII aircrafts. The parachuting is "an honorable purpose" where its members participate "in active parachute jumping in the style of the WWII airborne soldier utilizing an aircraft that actually participated in the invasion of Europe in 1944."
What's the purpose of Open Hangar Day?
Part of the WWII Airborne Demonstration Team's mission is to educate the public and "to foster, promote, and engage in research of WWII airborne operations and military history to inform and educate the public through airborne demonstrations throughout the United States and Europe, therefore keeping their memories, sacrifices, and traditions alive for future generations." Which is why the team periodically hosts Open Hanger Days at its hangar in Frederick, Oklahoma.
The hangar in Frederick is a genuine WWII hangar. During that time, it was known as the Frederick Army Airfield. The team has revived the hangar and restored it to its former glory. The team regularly hosts its Parachute School at the hangar where students in a nine day full-immersion experience.
During the Open Hangar Day, the public can tour the hangar and the aircrafts. Plus, they will get to watch a live airborne demonstration. For details about the upcoming Open Hangar Day, check out the event's Facebook event page.
