Severe Storms Expected to Return to Oklahoma This Weekend
It has been a quiet few days in Oklahoma. Some meteorologists have considered Oklahoma to be too quiet. And now it looks like severe weather is expected to make a return to Oklahoma starting on Saturday, May 17.
April and May are typically the months where Oklahoma sees the most severe storms and the strongest tornadoes. Oklahoma ended April with torrential downpours that lead to historic flooding and multiple storms with damaging winds and big hail. Oklahoma ended the month of April with 22 tornadoes.
As of Tuesday, May 13, Oklahoma has only seen one tornado so far for the month of May. That number is expected to increase as severe weather is expected to return to Oklahoma this weekend and into next week with the potential for significant thunderstorms and tornado outbreaks.
Multiple tornado outbreaks possible the middle of May.
Extreme Meteorologist Reed Timmer, who heads up Team Dominator, posted to his official Facebook page oover the weekend indicating that there could be multiple tornado outbreaks May 15-22, and that includes Oklahoma.
Areas in the southern plains, Great Lakes region, mid-Atlantic and the southeastern United States could see a "major uptick in severe weather" this weekend and into next week. According to Timmer, this could potentially include multiple significant severe weather outbreaks with tornado threats.

There are several uncertainties before storms move in to Oklahoma.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, there are a few key uncertainties with this weekend's storms as more information will become available closer to time. Timing of the incoming system will impact the exact days of potentially more intense severe weather. And the track of the system will play a role in the location of the storms.
Either way, the National Weather Service in Norman is expecting Oklahoma to see daily chances for strong to severe storms with all hazards possible this weekend and into early next week. Therefore Oklahoma residents are encouraged to re-familiarize themselves and their family of their storm safety plan.
Oklahoma could see multiple days in May with severe weather potential.
FOX25 Meteorologist Peyton Galyean posted a TikTok video with graphs from the supercell composite parameter to map out the supercell potential for Oklahoma for the rest of May.
The graphs do not indicate a guarantee for severe weather, it just indicates all the ingredients are available for severe weather. And the graphs indicate that Oklahoma could see a long stretch of severe weather potential from May 12 through May 26.
